Artist Statement: My Creative Journey

Artist Statement: A minha jornada criativa

My creative journey began at the age of 14, with my first experience of working with gouache, and has continued to evolve through the exploration of different techniques, materials, and artistic languages.

From visual poetry to mandalas, from drawing to intuitive writing, I gradually discovered a deeply personal way of making visible what lives within my inner world — emotions, questions, intuitions, and experiences that do not always find their way into words.

Today, image, word, colour, and intuition come together in my creative process. My angelic visions emerge from this inner universe as expressions of transformation, light, vulnerability, strength, and rebirth.

Creating has become, for me, a way of listening, discovering, and transforming — transforming to understand, creating to make sense of what I feel, and giving shape to the unseen.

TERESA DURÃO’S SPIRITUAL ART

A text by Miguel Santos, writer and researcher..

A Art is one of the highest forms of spirituality that the human soul can attain. Art and spirit have therefore always been intrinsically connected. Bringing ancient spiritual practices and disciplines into the world of visual and applied arts is to follow the very essence of artistic intuition, creativity, and authenticity. This is precisely what visual artist Teresa Durão does through her work.

The mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol found throughout Asian cultures. It can be understood in two distinct ways: externally, as a visual representation of the universe; and internally, as a guide to various practices found across many spiritual traditions of Asia, including meditation.

In Hinduism and Buddhism, the belief is that by entering the mandala and journeying towards its centre, one is guided through a cosmic process of transforming the universe from a place of suffering into one of joy and happiness.

Nas Through Teresa Durão’s works, we are invited to immerse ourselves in a spiritual process of co-creating our own universe through words and forms that are, in essence, mantras — formal, verbal, and written circles of transformative energy that act upon both the outer and inner worlds, touching and inspiring us to surrender to the broader and higher centre of what lies at the heart of our original souls and the deeper identity of the Cosmos: the Energy of Love, Peace, Unity, and Brotherhood.

Teresa Durão’s work brings us, in its own original and singular way, back home — to that harmony between ourselves and the Cosmos, to a shared identity shaped by vibration and pattern, feeling and non-linear gesture. This is deeply significant in the collective moment we are experiencing as a civilisation.

Peaceful, fraternal, dynamic, and transformative Love is the Way. And conscious artists, attuned to the universe, are among its most authentic instruments.

Congratulations, Teresa Durão.
